(ConservativeInsider.org) – Most Americans can only sit and watch the chaos unfolding in Afghanistan as the US military attempts to evacuate US citizens and Afghans from the now Taliban-controlled nation. However, two US House Representatives, both who served in the Iraq war, secretly traveled to Kabul to get a first-hand account of the scene and report back on the reality of the situation. Unsurprisingly, the Biden administration was furious with the unsanctioned trip.
On Tuesday, August 24, Representatives Seth Moulton (D-MA) and Peter Meijer (R-MI) flew to Kabul for about 24 hours to “conduct oversight on the evacuation.” After they left Afghan airspace, the vets assured Americans they didn’t take seats away from evacuees, but rather waited until a flight had empty seats for the crew in order to fly out.
Moulton shared a photo from the airport on Twitter:
Today with @RepMeijer I visited Kabul airport to conduct oversight on the evacuation.
Witnessing our young Marines and soldiers at the gates, navigating a confluence of humanity as raw and visceral as the world has ever seen, was indescribable. pic.twitter.com/bWGQh1iw2c

While the pair of Representatives funded the trip themselves, the Biden administration and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) firmly criticized the lawmakers for their bold move. However, Moulton and Meijer did share valuable insight into the situation with the public. They emphasized how it will be near impossible to help all evacuees by the August 31 deadline, noting it would even be difficult to get everyone out by September 11.
While this is disheartening news, the congressmen did highlight that they have never been more proud to be American as they watch how hard our military members and state department officials are working to help this nation and its people.
