(ConservativeInsider.org) – Since its historic 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) has continually upheld the right for Americans to abort their unborn children. However, SCOTUS heard oral arguments in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case on Wednesday, December 1, opening up the possibility that the 6-3 conservative-leaning court could overturn the decades-old precedent allowing abortions in this nation. So far, 26 states are ready to ban the procedure in some capacity if SCOTUS makes a change.
There are nine states, including Alabama, Arizona, Michigan, and Oklahoma, that still have a law banning abortion from before the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling. If overturned, their pre-Roe ban will automatically go into effect. Multiple other states have six or eight-week abortion bans prepared to go into effect should SCOTUS allow them.
Arizona Republic writer Ray Stern shared more about the movement towards banning abortion:
If the justices overturn Roe, Arizona would be one of the 26 states "certain or likely to ban abortion," according to the Washington, D.C.-based Guttmacher Institute…. – Story by me, @sbarchenger, @stephanieinnes https://t.co/yWAuzPcW3X

While Americans will likely wait months for the SCOTUS’ ruling on this, nearly half of US states could immediately ban termination if the high court overturns or weakens the current precedent. Pro-life advocates everywhere would celebrate such a move, but they must also rise to the challenge of the hard and much-needed work of caring for these women who prepared to abort their child and no longer have that option.
