65% of Democrats Support Government Censorship

(ConservativeInsider.org) – Censorship by Big Tech significantly increased during the COVID-19 pandemic and skyrocketed after the events of January 6. Sites like Facebook and Twitter typically silenced conservative voices and opinions, including that of then-President Donald Trump. Many Americans spoke out against this clear limitation of personal liberties. But, it turns out that the majority of Democrats actually want to see the government take the reins of censorship.

On Wednesday, August 18, the Pew Research Center published its findings from a July 26 – August 8 survey where researchers asked participants about the relationship between censorship, Big Tech, and the federal government. Of the 11,178 respondents, 48% said the government “should take steps to restrict false information online.”

The Pew Research Center highlighted the difference of opinion between Republicans and Democrats on Twitter:

The data shows that 65% of left-leaning Americans believe the government should be censoring information online, and 76% of Democrats hoped tech companies would also play a part in this.

Whenever censorship occurs, someone always has to be in charge of deciding what’s false and what’s not. However, citizens should not trust tech companies or the government with that duty. History shows they often censor opposing opinions rather than actual falsehoods.

The simple fact that citizens think censorship is okay means that Americans see nothing wrong with being at the mercy of the government and its decisions. That isn’t how a democracy should work — in fact, it reeks of totalitarianism.
