(ConservativeInsider.org) – Whenever a project is stopped halfway through, there are usually some loose ends to tie up, or, in this case, some gaping holes needing to be filled in. When President Joe Biden issued an Executive Order on his first day in office to stop border wall construction, he did not take into account the enormous amount of taxpayer money wasted or the damage it would do to communities near the border.
Now, amidst the current border immigration surge, the Biden administration finally is willing to do a little construction on the once-halted project.
Biden Halted Border Wall Construction, Leaving Major Gaps in Wall
In January, when Biden abruptly stopped building the border wall, he didn’t let contractors wrap up their current tasks or finish the parts they already had materials for. Instead, everything was just left as-is as they were called away. This left many places in disarray, including a levee along the Rio Grande Valley.
On April 30, though, the Department of Homeland Security announced it would “protect border communities from physical dangers” by repairing the Rio Grande Valley Flood Barrier System. This week, the US Army Corps of Engineers shared that they would be making the repairs:
In support of CBP’s border infrastructure program, USACE has resumed DHS-funded design & construction support on approx. 13.4 miles of levee in the Rio Grande Valley that were partially excavated or at various levels of construction when work on the wall was paused for review.

These Repairs Will Tighten Security at the Border
While President Biden refuses to acknowledge the crisis he created at our southern border, this small repair is at least a step in the right direction. While it will protect the nearby towns from hurricanes arriving this summer, repairing the levee will also make it more difficult for illegal immigrants to sneak into our nation in this area.
Hidalgo County Residents Are Thankful for the Added Protection
US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) had over 178,000 migrant encounters last month, many of which were along the Rio Grande Valley. Between these startling numbers and the start of hurricane season on June 1, Hidalgo County residents were very thankful for the announcement. Now, hopefully, President Biden will see the good this wall construction brings and continue on with it to secure the rest of our nation’s southern border.
