(ConservativeInsider.org) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) select committee held its first hearing on Tuesday, July 27. It focused on the experience of law enforcement during the January 6 riot at the US Capitol. However, rather than honing in on the facts of the day, testimonies were given to spike emotions, and one officer even lied about the death of a colleague during his testimony.
During the July 27 hearing, Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn asked listeners to take a moment of silence to honor officer Brian Sicknick. While his death should be mourned, Dunn claimed he “died from injuries he sustained in the line of duty defending the Capitol.” However, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Sicknick experienced two strokes after the riot and died of “natural” causes.
DC Examiner investigative reporter Jerry Dunleavy shared more details about the misleading testimony on Twitter:
NEW: Capitol riot committee chair Bennie Thompson said "seven people lost their lives." Officer Harry Dunn said Sicknick "died from injuries he sustained in the line of duty." But the M.E. said Sicknick died of a stroke in a "natural" manner.@DCExaminerhttps://t.co/TLtovrf5em

Just as telling, perhaps, is that Officer Dunn left out any reference to Ashli Babbitt, the Air Force veteran who was the only person killed during the riot. Babbitt was shot by a Capitol Police officer who has not yet been named by investigators.
While it’s critical that Americans understand what happened during the January 6 riot, citizens shouldn’t be manipulated by false words and emotions. Rather than invoking more fear and anger, our nation needs to address the events of that day with a clear head to properly address it and move forward with strength.
