CDC Extends Important Trump Rule

( – After letting migrants flood across our borders in numbers not seen in years, the Biden administration has finally made a small step in limiting the number of people it lets in. In the name of public health and safety, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced it’s extending a Trump-era rule that allows US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) to send back migrants who pose “a serious danger to the public health” as coronavirus cases are on the rise once again.

On Monday, August 2, the CDC released a statement continuing Title 42, which was put in place by former President Donald Trump to protect communities near the border from COVID-19 surges from incoming migrants. This announcement came after multiple people, including Chris Cabrera, a vice president of the National Border Patrol Council, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) have spoken out against immigrants being released by CBP after they tested positive for COVID-19.

CBS News immigration reporter Camilo Montoya-Galvez shared more about the order and how long it’s expected to last:

The United Nations has asked President Joe Biden to end Title 42, saying it conflicts with the 1951 Refugee Convention. For now, the president, CDC, and Department of Homeland Security are standing their ground. Hopefully, this will keep our southern states from experiencing any more harm than has already been done over the past seven months.
