Censorship Law REINSTATED – Media Defeated!

(ConservativeInsider.org) – Since Big Tech started heavily censoring Conservatives after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, lawmakers have grappled with how to address the often unfair restrictions social media places on some of its users. The Texas legislature passed one law in September 2021 trying to address this situation, but it was halted before it could even take effect. However, a federal appeals court just reinstated the censorship law.

On Wednesday, May 11, the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals allowed HB 20 to go into effect, making it illegal for social media companies with over 50 million monthly users, like Twitter and Facebook, to ban people based on their political opinions. The Texan, an independent newspaper that filed an amicus brief in support of the law, shared the news on Twitter:

A statement from NetChoice, a lobbying group that supports Big Tech companies, called the move “unprecedented” and the bill “constitutionally rotten.” Lawmakers opposed to the bill, including GOP strategist Liz Mair, believe it will increase unwanted sexual content, ISIS propaganda, and anti-Trump content on the sites. One American shared their similar views on Twitter:

With NetChoice’s appeal, the Supreme Court could decide to step in and strike down the law as the lawsuit winds through trial court. What do you think, is this law a step forward for Texans, or will it only bog down their social media with more unwanted information?
