Cuomo Resigns While Maintaining Innocence

Cuomo Resigns

( – In recent months, nearly a dozen women brought forth allegations of sexual harassment against New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D). The Democrat and his personal lawyer repeatedly denied the claims. However, New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) investigated the claims and issued a scathing report accusing the governor of breaking multiple state and federal laws. All of this reached its peak this week.

On Tuesday, August 10, Governor Cuomo held a press conference to announce his resignation, which will go into effect in two weeks. He continued to deny any wrongdoing and instead blamed the allegations on politics and his “dated” view of what he considered “endearing gestures.”

Political pundits slammed the governor’s speech, calling it an “it’s not my fault sandwich.”

Last week, Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul (D) declared Cuomo’s behavior “repulsive and unlawful” and encouraged Cuomo to step down. Now with his official resignation, she will be sworn in as the state’s 57th governor. Hochul, who hails from the Buffalo area, previously served in Congress and will be the first woman to hold the state’s highest office. While this was a huge decision for Cuomo, it was no doubt the right one for the people of New York.
