Democrats Finally Stand Up To Nancy Pelosi Over Insane Mask Rules

( – For almost two years, House Republicans have been fighting Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) mask mandates, who some describe as a tyrant. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) once said she was only concerned about her own wealth, direction, and control. Other Republicans defied the Speaker only to receive massive fines. But now, it seems the GOP lawmakers aren’t the only ones fed up with the mandates. Members of her own party are sick and tired of Pelosi’s rules.

Mask Mandate History

The Democratic congresswoman first announced all members of the House would have to wear masks in July 2020. She has kept the mandate in place despite nearly all of the members of Congress receiving the COVID-19 vaccines. In January 2021, the House passed a resolution approving fines for members who did not abide by Pelosi’s rules – $500 for the first offense and $2,500 for any subsequent violation.

In May 2021, Pelosi relaxed some of the rules slightly. She said members would be allowed to remove their face coverings when it was their turn to speak. However, she still demanded that lawmakers cover their faces everywhere else.

Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Andrew Clyde (R-GA) continue to wage war against the mandates. The two openly defy the Speaker all the time, and they are paying dearly for it. In December, the New York Times revealed the two had incurred more than $100,000 in combined fees for refusing to bow down to the Democratic leader.

Democrats Push Back

For a long time, it has only been Republicans fighting Pelos, but two Democratic House members have spoken out against the Speaker’s mask mandate. Reps. Dan Kildee (D-MI) and Rep. Susan Wild (D-PA) have both called on their leader to end the mandate.

Wild, who sits on the House Ethics Committee, told Playbook that her committee has “sadly been turned into the mask police,” and she believes they are spending too much time trying to enforce Pelosi’s rules. The congresswoman said she thinks the House needs to lift the mandate in March when lawmakers come back from recess. Kildee said he thinks Pelosi needs to lift the mandate “sooner rather than later.”

The Speaker hasn’t responded to her colleagues’ recommendations. Maybe if lawmakers put a high-end hair salon in Congress, she will allow them to breathe freely.

Could Kildee and Wild be the first of many Democrats to revolt against Pelosi’s draconian mandates? Tell us what you think.
