(ConservativeInsider.org) – After the past two years, most Americans know how to keep themselves safe from COVID-19 if they want to avoid the virus. This knowledge, and the departure from the use of lockdowns, allows those ready to return to a more regular routine the freedom to do so. However, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), believes lockdowns serve a purpose.
On Friday, April 1, Dr. Fauci spoke with Newshub about the handling of COVID-19 in China. Over the course of the discussion, Fauci said lockdowns serve two purposes, including preventing the healthcare system from getting overwhelmed. However, at the start of the conversation, he also said he would have advocated for stricter lockdowns in the beginning, much as New Zealand did. He suggested this despite many studies showing that lockdowns did not actually save lives, and in many instances, actually hurt people.
In a working paper published in the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), researchers found that nations that implemented shelter-in-place (SIP) policies did not necessarily have fewer deaths than countries that imposed fewer restrictions on their citizens. Similarly, a European study found that nations with higher incomes and non-communicable disease rates did not have lower death rates because of “more stringent public decisions.”
Townhall.com writer Scott Morefield shared more opinions on Fauci’s ill-advised suggestions surrounding lockdowns:
Dr. Scott Atlas on Fauciism's failure: "When do we admit that the person in charge of the policy, Dr. Fauci, his advice has been wrong and a failure? It's failed to stop the spread of the infection, it failed to stop people from dying, and it killed and destroyed millions …" pic.twitter.com/n2DwXHMPem

Hopefully, Americans realize the absurdity of implementing another lockdown in light of the negative effects, including social isolation and economic stagnation, it has had on America.
