Iran Issues Threat To US To Remove Sanctions

Iran Issues Threat Telling US to Remember

( – The battle over nuclear weapons, sanctions, and America’s intervention with Iran continues. On Wednesday, January 27, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the Biden administration is “a long way” from rejoining the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). But, Iran did not take that news lightly.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Tweets a Threat to the US

On Thursday, January 28, Iran Foreign Minister Javad Zarif tweeted the following statement to put pressure on the Biden administration:

The country is hoping to rewrite the narrative of former President Donald Trump’s interactions with the Middle Eastern nation. Trump’s hard and fast sanctions crippled Iran’s economy as the country continued to violate the rules outlined in the JCPOA.

The Stark Contrast in Administrations

Iran is hoping to bully the new administration into removing Trump’s sanctions, even as it continues to stockpile and enrich uranium. As this continues unchecked, it seems that Blinken still doesn’t see slowing Iran’s progress as a top priority:

He compares that to Trump’s Secretary of State Mike Pompeo:

Blinken’s Next Steps With Iran

During the Wednesday meeting, Blinken said his department would “bring to bear different perspectives” when it comes to Iran’s sanctions and lack of compliance. This is in stark contrast to the clear line US allies in the Middle East are asking for. They believe rekindling the nuclear deal or something similar would only further embolden the regime and its nuclear program.

The only way to stand up to a bully is to hold the line. The United States cannot be intimidated, and we must hope our president and his cabinet understand that. If used wisely, the power we have as a nation can foster peace and dissuade the development of nuclear weapons.
