(ConservativeInsider.org) – Jonathan Turley, who is a professor of law at George Washington University, has said that the evidence which led to the federal indictment for former President Donald Trump is “compelling” and that there is a distinct possibility that Trump will have to spend the rest of his life in prison if he is found guilty. Turley has sided with Trump in the past, especially during his first impeachment, so for a legally trained MAGA ally to give such an opinion is quite revealing.
Turley ventured to suggest that once a jury has had a chance to review all the evidence, some of the charges may be thrown out, but with 37 charges against him, Trump’s enemies are clearly hoping that if they throw enough mud then some of it will stick. Turley noted that the government only has to make one charge stick and there could be a sentence of between ten and twenty years on the table.
Turley was speaking during a panel discussion with Brit Hume, a senior political analyst with Fox News, and former Representative Trey Gowdy (R-SC). Gowdy pointed out that some of the evidence appeared to come from an audio tape on which Trump himself was supposed to have spoken, although he said that whether or not that evidence might be ruled inadmissible was a matter for the presiding judge.
Given that the alleged crimes of both the Clinton and the Biden families have yet to be addressed by the Department of Justice (DOJ), some commentators have noted that the Trump indictment appears to be more of a political witch-hunt rather than a quest to see justice done.
However, considering that Trump has such a commanding lead in the polls on the run-up to the 2024 election, supporters say the Biden administration seems to be determined that Trump should be taken out of the political equation by any means necessary.
