Mayor De Blasio Encourages NYC Heroin Injection Site for Junkies

( – For decades, America has struggled with opioid use as overdoses and deaths from the drugs reached a record high during the coronavirus pandemic. No one has quite figured out how to stop the issue, but some people have thrown out some wild ideas about how to do it. For instance, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) just renewed his push to open supervised heroin injection sites in the city.

On Tuesday, October 26, Mayor de Blasio told reporters at a news conference that supervised injection sites are “an idea whose time has come.” The proposal did not gain enough steam when it was first brought up in 2018, but de Blasio hopes to have the help of President Joe Biden and New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) this time around.

When de Blasio first introduced this idea, one community resource organization shared their view on the outrageous idea:

According to the CDC, fatal overdoses on opioids are up 36% this year, and yet Democrats are hoping to decriminalize them and enable addicts with fresh needles and a warm place to use them. This is after New York Governor Hochul already decriminalized possession and sale of the hypodermic needles and syringes used with heroin.

It seems that because New York City has been unable to stop the illegal drug use, they simply plan to decriminalize it and hope citizens won’t see it as a problem anymore. However, it will only exacerbate the issue that has affected nearly every American in recent years. What do you think?
