Microsoft Lawyer Goes to Work for CCP-Linked Firm

( – Every week, it seems like another powerful person chooses to ally themselves with China or a company based there. Now, an American lawyer who served at Microsoft for almost 19 years has left the technology giant to work for Tik Tok, a company closely tied to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

On July 6, Bloomberg Law learned that Matthew Penarczyk, who has contributed to the Clinton campaign and other Democrat causes over the years, is now the head of legal at TikTok. He joined former Microsoft lawyer Erich Andersen, who was hired last year as head of corporate affairs and general counsel for ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company.

Bloomberg Law first shared the news on Twitter:

In 2018, ByteDance founder and CEO Zhang Yiming publicly stated that his company would enhance education for its staff on “socialist core values” and “public opinion guidance,” among other things. It’s clear TikTok is following in these footsteps, and now another American lawyer has joined this dangerous endeavor.

Americans have seen this story time and time again, where top, powerful people in our nation begin intermingling themselves with China and its communist ideals. If our nation is to continue as the world’s greatest power, we must remain cognizant of and push back against these issues.
