(ConservativeInsider.org) – Ever since President Joe Biden squeaked out a win in the 2020 presidential election, Democrats have been looking for ways to boost their voting base moving forward. One of their plans for a leg up includes a voting “rights” bill called the For the People Act, commonly referred to as HR1. But, when GOP Senators took a firm stand against the bill this week, some Progressives were quite upset.
On Tuesday, June 23, the Senate voted 50-50 along party lines, stalling HR1 from moving forward. The Republican filibuster ensured the bill would be debated and no tie could be broken. However, the filibuster, which protects the minority from being overrun by the majority and was put in place by our nation decades ago, met quite a bit of push back from House Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Twitter:
Call me radical, but I do not believe a minority of Senators should be able to block voting rights for millions of people.
But I guess I’m just from that far-left school of thought that legislation should pass when a majority of legislators vote for it https://t.co/NTtk28BwRs

The Left has used the filibuster in the past to stall GOP legislation from moving forward, but now they’re only upset about it because it’s stalling their plan to relax voter ID laws and make it easier to get mail-in ballots. Both of these key points of the For the People Act, along with many others in the 900-page bill, make Conservatives thankful that GOP Senators took a stand against the bill this week.
For now, AOC will just have to live with the fact she lives in a nation where minorities are protected from majorities pushing them around.
