(ConservativeInsider.org) – In 2019, when Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) first put forth her Green New Deal, many people simply brushed it aside as a radical, socialist pipe dream. But, fast-forwarding to 2021, it seems the plan actually has a bit of support behind it.
On Tuesday, April 20, Senate Democrats introduced the Green New Deal, calling it a “revolution.” The bill targets eliminating fossil fuel usage, minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, and dabbles in socialist reforms like income gaps and race relations.
Republicans were quick to speak out against the bill, noting that government-led change burdens taxpayers and doesn’t drive new, environmentally-friendly technology. Instead, Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) highlighted that “free market innovation is the best way to protect our air, water, and communities.”
Representative Kevin Brady, head of the Ways and Means GOP, shared his thoughts on Twitter:
Biden's "infrastructure" plan is just the Green New Deal in disguise.
Dems' tax hikes from this plan will lead to fewer jobs and lower wages.
We should be working to connect workers back to jobs, not destroying them to pay for liberal wish list items.https://t.co/gjIwlyDC5t

While conservation, lowering overall emissions, and a healthy planet are all wonderful aspirations, we should not weaken our energy grid and fall deeper into debt to do so. So, for now, AOC should put her expensive Green New Deal away and let the private sector forge ahead with new, energy-efficient technologies consumers actually want.
