(ConservativeInsider.org) – On Tuesday, December 1, parts of an interview between former President Barack Obama and Snapchat political host Peter Hamby aired, creating a divide in the Democratic party. Obama discouraged the use of the progressive slogan “defund the police,” as it scares voters away. But, members of the House of Representatives Democratic “Squad” called the former president out on his remarks.
House Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) shared her thoughts:
We lose people in the hands of police. It’s not a slogan but a policy demand. And centering the demand for equitable investments and budgets for communities across the country gets us progress and safety. https://t.co/Vu6inw4ms7

Meanwhile, Congresswoman-elect Cori Bush (D-MO) also called him out:
With all due respect, Mr. President—let’s talk about losing people. We lost Michael Brown Jr. We lost Breonna Taylor. We’re losing our loved ones to police violence.
It’s not a slogan. It’s a mandate for keeping our people alive. Defund the police. https://t.co/Wsxp1Y1bBi

While Obama discouraged the “snappy” progressive slogan, he did not discourage the actual policy of the “defund the police” movement. In essence, Obama asked Democrats to use placating language to win political office so that they can then make the changes they want.

Barack Obama tells Snapchat's @PeterHamby that “snappy” slogans like “Defund the Police” aren't very effective and will lose you an audience.

While Obama may have discouraged the use of certain words, his failure to denounce the movement itself, rather than just its title, was quite telling of his hopes for the progressive party and America. His bait-and-switch policies are why so many Americans appreciate the clear-cut and straightforward persona of President Donald Trump.
