(ConservativeInsider.org) – Once upon a time, owning a home was the American dream. Perhaps it still is, but with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) latest move to extend the eviction moratorium put in place last fall, it’s quickly ruining the joy and practicality of owning property. This intensely partisan move by CDC director Rochelle Walensky will likely have untold repercussions for the economy and homeowners if it’s not stopped.
Landlords Struggle to Collect Rent Checks, Foreclosures Loom
In September 2020, the CDC began banning evictions on people experiencing hardship during COVID-19 and unable to pay rent. This has sent multitudes of landlords into financial difficulties, unable to pay their mortgages. In turn, some have gone into forbearance because of this federal rule.
August 1 was a hopeful date for many landlords, as the ban was set to expire the day before. However, on Tuesday, August 3, the White House along with the CDC announced it would extend the moratorium 60 more days.
While the federal government apparently has $46 billion in aid to provide to landlords whose tenants have failed to pay rent, according to the US Treasury Department, only $3 billion ever made it to the landlords as of the end of June.
Tucker Carlson Rallies Against the CDC’s Move
On Wednesday, August 4, Fox News host Tucker Carlson spoke out against the CDC’s decision, highlighting how the federal agency “will now decide who can live in your home, under what circumstance, and for how long.” According to Carlson, this totalitarian move will effectively destroy “America’s rental properties.”
Carlson also noted the double standard for renters and landlords. While there’s a moratorium on evictions, there’s no such moratorium on mortgages. Carlson emphasized the reason for this is likely because “banks are huge Democratic donors, and they’re getting the treatment they paid for.” The Fox News host has said out loud what so many landlords are thinking: this latest move simply doesn’t make practical sense and it’s helping the underprivileged at the expense of those who worked hard to improve their livelihoods.
Federal Government Doubles Down on Its Stance Despite Pushback
Not surprisingly, multiple realty groups and landlords have sued the CDC over the eviction moratorium, but the Justice Department (DOJ) defended the order, emphasizing the “deteriorating public health situation.”
While Americans continue to watch this situation play out, many landlords will continue to lose their property and livelihood due to the Biden administration’s partisan decision. Hopefully, the administration changes its mind on this insane choice, but that seems unlikely. Instead, it’s likely homeowners will use their vote in the 2022 midterms to push back against the Democrat’s radical agenda.
