US Diplomat Admits He Lied to President Trump About Foreign Policy Issues

( – Multiple world leaders have praised President Donald Trump for his dealings in the Middle East — working to end an “era of endless wars.” But, in a recent interview, senior American diplomat James Jeffrey admitted that he lied to leadership in order to manipulate Trump’s plan in Syria.

James Jeffrey was the Secretary’s Special Representative for Syria Engagement and the Special Envoy to the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS until November 8. On November 12, in an interview with Defense One, Jeffrey said that there “was never a Syria withdrawal” in response to President Trump’s order to withdraw all but 200 troops from Syria in October of 2019.

Jeffery admitted that his team was “always playing shell games to not make clear to our leadership how many troops we had” in Syria.

House Representative Jim Banks (R-IN) shared his thoughts on the lies told by Jeffrey:

While some of President Trump’s decisions in the Middle East were quite controversial, most can now see the success of his policies in the region, including the Abraham Accords. Thankfully, despite lies and outright attempts to sabotage the president’s efforts from within the ranks, the White House was able to secure peace for many in that region of the world.
