(ConservativeInsider.org) – As the potential for Democrat Joe Biden to take over the White House in January looms, President Donald Trump and his administration tighten restrictions on Iran as much as possible. The latest round of sanctions focuses on foundations controlled by the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
On November 18, the US Department of the Treasury released new sanctions against Islamic Revolution Mostazafan Foundation, commonly called Bonyad Mostazafan, and 160 other holdings within Iran. The CEO for the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, Mark Dubowitz, shared insight on the new sanctions:
“Analysts also say Bonyad Mostazafan has procured goods & technology for the country’s WMD programs. The sanctions also hit several of the foundation’s top officials and dozens of its subsidiaries operating across Iran’s key sectors, including energy, mining and finance.”

The same day, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo emphasized the importance and success of the sanctions against Iran in a press statement. Pompeo shared a snippet of it here:
The Maximum Pressure campaign against the Iranian regime continues to be effective. It deprives the regime of funds to carry out its malign activities. Reducing that pressure is a dangerous choice, bound to weaken new regional partnerships for peace and strengthen the regime.

Come January, if Biden becomes president, it’s likely he will try to re-establish the 2015 nuclear deal rather than continue the sanctions strategy used by the Trump Administration. So, in the weeks leading up to Inauguration Day, we will likely see more sanctions against Iran, hopefully continuing to weaken the malign regime.
