(ConservativeInsider.org) – Chicago experienced a surge of gun violence over the weekend of February 23-25, 2024, resulting in four fatalities and leaving at least 21 people injured.
The first deadly incident occurred Friday, February 23, shortly after 3:30 PM, in Pottawattomie Park, located on North Rogers Avenue. According to ABC 7, two armed assailants approached two men and two women, opened fire, and tragically killed a 19-year-old woman.
Just hours later, another grim scene unfolded – CBS News reported that a shooting erupted inside a residence on South Vincennes Avenue. This incident claimed the lives of two adults and a child, identified by CBS News as 14-year-old Amere P. Deese. These fatalities add to the concerning statistics documented by the Chicago Sun-Times database, which recorded 57 homicides in the city from January 1, 2024, through February 26, 2024.
Chicago police elaborated on the weekend’s violence, confirming that the shooting in the West Chatham neighborhood on Sunday night involved a child and took three lives. The incident occurred around South Vincennes Avenue and left four individuals injured, with one currently in stable condition.
Law enforcement stated during a press conference that they are actively searching for two individuals believed to be connected to the shooting and urged anyone with information to come forward.
Earlier on Sunday, tragedy struck again at Pottawattomie Park – a 19-year-old woman lost her life, and three others sustained injuries, including gunshot wounds to the chest, foot, and forehead, respectively. According to Chicago police, the victims were rushed to nearby hospitals while the suspects fled the scene.
Another shooting unfolded on Sunday, leaving a 35-year-old man critically injured inside a moving vehicle in the Gold Coast neighborhood. The perpetrator reportedly fled the scene in a dark-colored car, while the victim remained hospitalized in critical condition.
The violence extended well into Sunday evening when authorities discovered a 17-year-old boy with a gunshot wound in a River North hotel room. Additionally, on Saturday morning, a failed robbery attempt at a downtown jewelry store resulted in the offender being shot by a concealed-carry license holder. Law enforcement quickly apprehended the suspect and took them to a hospital for treatment.
Lastly, on Friday night, gunfire erupted in the Brainerd neighborhood, leaving a 37-year-old woman wounded inside her home on South Loomis Street.
