(ConservativeInsider.org) – The election interference case against former President Donald Trump in Georgia has gotten messy, with accusations that the District Attorney and a top prosecutor were involved in an “improper” romantic relationship when she hired him for the case.
The accusations come from Mike Roman, who was involved in Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign and is a defendant in the case. Roman faces seven criminal charges in the case, alleging that he played a major role in Trump’s efforts to overturn the election in 2020. According to papers filed by Ashleigh Merchant, Roman’s attorney, they allege that Fani Willis, the District Attorney for Fulton County, is involved in an ongoing romantic relationship with Nathan Wade, a special prosecutor Willis hired for the case against Roman. An attorney representing Roman suggested that the inappropriate relationship between Willis and Wade constitutes a conflict of interest.
Willis has pushed back against the accusations, suggesting that the allegations against her come from Wade’s estranged wife, Joycelyn Wade, in an attempt to damage Willis’s reputation. According to Willis, the Wades have been separated for over two years and are in the process of a no-fault divorce.
While Merchant has not provided any hard evidence that Wade and Willis engaged in an improper relationship, Willis has not yet directly addressed the accusations. Merchant suggested that Willis is attempting to “create a conspiracy where none exists” to avoid answering questions about her relationship with Wade. Merchant pointed out that Wade has used the money he was paid for his services as a prosecutor in the case to take Willis on lavish vacations, thus “profiting significantly” from the position Willis hired Wade to do.
Norm Eisen, the special counsel to the House Committee on the Judiciary during Trump’s impeachment and an ally to Willis, has suggested that Wade should step down from his position as prosecutor in the case due to the allegations of an improper relationship.
The Superior Court Judge in Fulton County, Scott McAfee set a hearing for February 15th on the motion filed by Merchant.
