(ConservativeInsider.org) – Researchers working on an app to help “trans women” (men who claim they are women) learn to speak more like real women has been awarded a $200,000 grant from the National Institutes for Health (NIH).
The research is being run out of the University of Cincinnati, and the research is being led by Associate Professor Vesna Novak, who is transgender and was previously known as Domen, along with UC speech scientist Victoria McKenna. They will be aided by New York University speech-language pathologist Tara McAllister.
An abstract of the study claims that one of the reasons for that trans people supposedly have a lower quality of life is due to the fact that many trans people have “voice dysphoria” because their voices do not match the gender they claim to be. While that may be true, some would argue that the root cause of a lower quality of life for trans people is because they are trying to convince others that they are something they are not (the opposite sex), and the mental illness that leads to this is actually the root cause behind their unhappiness and lower level of satisfaction with life.
The project is called “Improving the Accessibility of Transgender Voice Training with Visual-acoustic Biofeedback,” which began in December 2023 and plans to run through November 2025. The plan is to use new software to facilitate “gender-affirming voice and communication training” (GAVT) to coach men on how to sound more like women.
The funding for the project comes from an agency within the NIH called the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD). The College Fix, the outlet that first broke this story, reached out to the NIDCD to ask what “communication disorder” trans women have, but they declined to answer.
The study will involve 40 “trans women” who will be divided into two groups, one of which will be using the new GAVT software and one that will be using a “generic voice analysis app.”
