(ConservativeInsider.org) – The estate of the late singer-songwriter Sinéad O’Connor and her record label Chrysalis strongly condemned the use of her music at former President Donald Trump’s campaign rallies. They said that O’Connor would have been deeply offended by the association of her work with Trump’s political events, given her vocal criticism of the GOP presidential front-runner.
Trump’s use of O’Connor’s most famous song, her rendition of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” at rallies in North Carolina and Maryland sparked immediate condemnation from her estate. They accused the campaign of misrepresenting her artistry, especially considering O’Connor’s public condemnation of Trump, whom she once described as a “biblical devil.”
The estate issued a statement demanding that Donald Trump and his associates promptly stop using her music. They emphasized O’Connor’s enduring dedication to principles such as decency, kindness, fairness, and honesty.
O’Connor’s opposition to Trump was evident from a 2020 interview with Hot Press, where she labeled him as the “biblical devil.” Her stance stemmed from a deep belief that Trump’s actions, particularly regarding immigration policies, were morally wrong.
Following her death in July 2023 at 56, O’Connor’s family released a statement and demanded privacy. The statement described the late singer’s death as the end of an era for the music industry as her legacy lives on.
Best known for her 1990 cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U,” O’Connor’s rendition launched her to stardom, spending three weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earning her three Grammy Award nominations. The accompanying music video, featuring O’Connor’s powerful performance in a black turtleneck, remains iconic to this day.
However, O’Connor’s career was not without controversy. Notably, her 1992 appearance on “Saturday Night Live” saw her criticize Pope John Paul II over child sex abuse within the Catholic Church while singing Bob Marley’s “War.” This bold act sparked debate and solidified her reputation as an artist unafraid to address difficult issues.
O’Connor’s representatives did not respond to further requests for comment.
