(ConservativeInsider.org) – The FBI is conducting a manhunt for Majid Dastjani Farahani, a 42-year-old Iranian intelligence officer accused of devising assassination plots targeting U.S. officials, including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
Farahani is believed to have ties to Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security. Fluent in multiple languages, including English, French, Spanish, and Farsi – his regular travel routes are between Venezuela and Iran.
The FBI’s Miami field office released a public notice on Friday, March 1, seeking information on Farahani’s whereabouts. They revealed he is actively recruiting individuals for various operations within the U.S., including targeting current and former government officials. This alleged retaliation stems from the 2020 U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani, attributed to then-President Trump and Secretary of State Pompeo.
In response to the threat, the FBI heightened security measures for Pompeo and Brian Hook, the former special envoy for Iran. This highlights the seriousness of the threat posed by Farahani.
However, this isn’t the first time Iranian operatives have been implicated in similar schemes – the Department of Justice charged individuals from Iran’s IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) group in 2022 for allegedly plotting to assassinate former National Security Advisor John Bolton.
Farahani is also accused of recruiting individuals to surveil religious sites, businesses, and other facilities in the U.S., raising national security and public safety concerns.
These developments stem from the ongoing tension between the U.S. and Iran following the January 2020 killing of Soleimani, who was held responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American troops in Iraq.
In retaliation, Iranian officials vowed revenge, leading to increased regional volatility – as recent escalations involved threats from Iranian-backed groups, including the October 7th assault by Hamas militants on Israel that resulted in casualties and hostages.
Although Hamas denied a direct connection to Soleimani’s death, Iran’s support for such actions suggests its commitment to retaliation.
Furthermore, Iranian-backed groups like the Houthis continue to destabilize the region by attacking shipping vessels and targeting Israeli forces. The United States has responded with limited strikes and targeted drone operations to counter these activities.
