(ConservativeInsider.org) – A report from a progressive think tank, Data for Progress, reveals increasing support for Donald Trump among LGBTQ+ voters.
According to the report, nearly 22% of the 900 LGBTQ+ respondents had a positive image of Trump, while 51% thought the same about Biden.
Although a majority of respondents favored President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party, opinions were divided on the administration’s performance compared to expectations.
About 45% believed Biden had outperformed their expectations, whereas 47% felt otherwise. Nearly 70% of LGBTQ+ adults who also identify as the Democrats wanted to see more effort from the party against anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.
The LGBTQ+ community played a significant role in Biden’s victory in the 2020 elections, where an overwhelming 83% of the community voted blue. This is the reason why political analysts believe that Trump can clinch the White House even if he manages to win up to 25% of these voters in 2024.
One of the reasons behind Trump’s increasing popularity among the community is the changing priorities of the LGBTQ+ people this year. Reportedly, 27% of these voters consider inflation, economy, and jobs as the top issue, compared to 15% who will vote on the LGBTQ+ issues and 10% who prioritize the issue of abortion.
Despite these polls, some analysts believe that Trump might not end up winning the votes of the community. Speaking to Newsweek, a professor at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, Michael Montgomery, stated that Trump has only moved further right on almost all the issues since 2020, which means that the LGBTQ+ community can never imagine supporting him.
Both Trump and Biden have already started their efforts to win over the LGBTQ+ community. Biden is currently mobilizing the group with its “Out for Biden-Harris” initiative, which is backed by many LGBTQ+ celebrities and officials.
Similarly, Trump’s wife, Melania Trump, who remained off the campaign trail for long, hosted a fundraiser for a conservative LGBTQ+ group, Log Cabin Republicans, at Mar-a-Lago.
Trump is also making inroads among black and Latino voters who are traditionally associated with Democrats.
