(ConservativeInsider.org) – During one of the most eventful weeks in modern-day politics, President Joe Biden announced that he was suspending his candidacy and endorsed his vice president, Kamala Harris, to become the official nominee at the Democratic National Convention, which is scheduled to be held in Chicago, Illinois in August.
Harris stated she is “honored” to have Biden’s endorsement and will do everything in her power to unite the Democrats and the nation to defeat the Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump. In what seems to have become a catchphrase or mantra for her, Harris has been known to say that she can imagine a better future for Americans, “unburdened by what has been.”
Harris also stated that she wants to stop Trump’s “extreme Project 2025 agenda.” Project 2025, also known as the Presidential Transition Project, is a proposal put forth by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank that Trump has no official ties to. Trump has not endorsed Project 2025, though many on the left have suggested he will implement the plan immediately if he is re-elected.
Though other Democrats might step up before the DNC to attempt to become the party’s nominee, the majority of Democrats have fallen into line and endorsed Harris, including former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, California Governor Gavin Newsom, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. Beshear is one of the leading candidates to be tapped as Harris’s Vice President.
Notably, some major Democrats have yet to endorse Harris, including former President Barack Obama, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Obama released a long statement calling Biden one of the “most consequential presidents” in American history but declined to state who he believed should be Biden’s successor. Schumer and Jeffries released a joint statement about Biden’s resignation, suggesting Harris is off to a “great start” to being nominated but did not endorse her.
