(ConservativeInsider.org) – Self-proclaimed DEI expert Shaun Harper is facing intense criticism for his op-ed in Forbes in which he claimed President Donald Trump may use the assassination attempt against him to attract more black voters to his campaign.
After facing severe backlash across social media outlets, Forbes took down the controversial piece. In the article, Harper wrote that Pittsburg, which is just 33 miles away from the shooting location, sees black people getting killed by gun violence 14 times more than their white counterparts.
Harper made absurd hypothetical analogies as he wished that Trump should not claim that he raised the fist while leaving the stage to give tribute to the iconic black duo, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, whose raised fists in the 1968 Olympics are famous as the “black power salute.”
Trump has a chance to connect himself with the same black people who raised fists against his rule in the protests that erupted after the murder of black man George Floyd back in 2020, Harper continued.
According to Harper, Trump should use this incident to promote gun control now that he himself is a victim of gun violence.
The DEI author also argued that Trump has previously tried to mobilize black voters by acknowledging that his 2023 mugshot sat well with people of color who are more familiar with the racial injustice within the US prisons. He went on to say that black men are indeed turning towards the former president in unprecedented numbers, but they do not believe that they face similar legal battles as Trump.
Netizens on X scolded Harper for the controversial piece, with some claiming that even many progressives are condemning the Forbes op ed, which is the first step towards healing the polarized society.
Filmmaker Randy Wilkins called it just another attempt by Forbes to promote racism while the company’s union slammed the outlet for the unethical and racist article.
