(ConservativeInsider.org) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is poised to join Donald Trump’s fundraising efforts as the former president seeks to close his funding gap with President Joe Biden, who has gained a significant fundraising advantage over Trump in recent months.
Recently, Trump met with DeSantis in Florida, where both GOP heavyweights bridged their differences.
Anonymous sources familiar with the development stated that although the specific fundraising plan of DeSantis may change with time, the governor is expected to contact top Republican donors to bring much-needed cash to Trump’s campaign besides attending fundraisers in Florida and Texas.
DeSantis is known to have deep ties with conservative fundraisers, which means he can play an important role in bringing Trump’s campaign out of the prevailing cash crunch. This effort will also boost his chances among many conservative circles for the 2028 GOP presidential nomination when Trump would be ineligible if he wins this year’s elections.
Roy Bailey, one of the top fundraising officials of DeSantis’s now-abandoned presidential campaign, stated that the governor will try to tap into his old donors and solicit donations for the former president.
After winning the 2022 gubernatorial elections in Florida, DeSantis emerged as the top rival of Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential nomination. He even amassed a mammoth $183 million funds for his own presidential campaign, but he eventually dropped out of the race before the New Hampshire primaries back in January.
For his 2022 gubernatorial campaign, DeSantis raised over $200 million, which helped him sweep the race against his Democratic rival Charlie Crist.
DeSantis spokesperson Taryn Fenske also confirmed the active involvement of the governor in the fundraising efforts of Trump and other Republican candidates.
Both DeSantis and Trump have openly attacked each other in the past. Trump mocked DeSantis by calling him “DeSanctimonious” while the governor claimed that the former president would not win the 2024 elections and even debunked his 2020 election fraud claims. Despite these differences, DeSantis announced his support for Trump while withdrawing his presidential nomination.
