(ConservativeInsider.org) – A former deputy director of the CIA issued a warning on Sunday, June 23 about the Biden administration’s “lack of sense of urgency” about the growing risk of a terrorist attack occurring within the United States.
Mike Morell, who now serves as the senior national security contributor to CBS News, wrote an article for Foreign Affairs comparing the lead up to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 to the national security issues we face today. Morell suggested our involvement with Israel and their war on Gaza as motivation for a potential terrorist attack and highlighted the southern border as a major vulnerability.
Morell has enough experience to know what he’s talking about, as he was the CIA analyst who presented the President’s Daily Brief to President George W. Bush on the morning of 9/11. Though he admitted that he no longer has access to the type of classified information that would indicate the Biden is taking the threat of terrorism seriously, Morell is still personally connected to many people who work as intelligence officers within the Biden administration. The former CIA deputy director said the response from current intelligence officers about his article calling for more urgency in defending the country from terrorist threats was “almost universal” agreement with him.
The Department of Homeland Security has also sounded the alarm on this issue, as their Inspector General released a report on June 7 that stated the DHS needs to screen asylum-seekers at the southern border better. Eight Tajikistan nationals who entered the US illegally via the southern border were arrested in various American cities this June on suspicions of being potential terrorists.
Christopher Wray, the Director of the FBI, has appeared before Congress, including the Senate Judiciary Committee, eight separate times in the last year to warn lawmakers about the elevated risk of terrorism the country faces, specifically highlighting the risk of the “security gaps” at the southern border, where thousands of people are able to enter the US undetected.
