(ConservativeInsider.org) – The office of Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall released a statement on Monday, February 26th reporting that an explosive device was detonated outside his office over the weekend. Thankfully, no one was injured in the explosion.
The device was detonated in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 24th at the AG’s Montgomery office, though as it was the weekend, no one was at the office. The explosion was reported to the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation in the morning hours on Monday morning after a tip was called in about a “suspicious package” in the area. The agency said they are unable to provide further information on the device while the investigation is occurring. It is unclear whether any property was damaged in the explosion.
When asked if the explosion was due to a recent state Supreme Court ruling that declares frozen embryos produced for IVF (in-vitro fertilization) procedures are considered children, a spokesperson for Marshall said that the media should not “jump to conclusions” without sufficient evidence. However, the explosion occurred one day after AG Marshall said he would not prosecute families or healthcare facilities that provide IVF in the wake of the state Supreme Court ruling, which has led many to speculate that the incident is related.
The recent ruling from the Alabama State Supreme Court declared that under current state law, frozen embryos could be regarded as children. The case was a wrongful death suit brought forward by three couples whose frozen embryos were destroyed due to an accident at the fertility clinic where they were being stored. However, it is currently just speculation that either the state Supreme Court ruling or the Attorney General’s promise that he would not prosecute couples attempting to use IVF to grow their families under the law is related to the explosive device.
The Attorney General’s office urges anyone with information on the explosion to contact the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
