Feds Warn Of ‘Retaliatory ‘ Acts After Trump Shooting

(ConservativeInsider.org) – Multiple government agencies suggested that they are concerned about “retaliatory attacks” in response to the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 13.

A joint intelligence bulletin was shared from the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigations on July 15 to officials at the federal, state, and local levels. The document suggests that “election-related targets” are at increased risk following the attempted shooting of the Republican Presidential candidate.

Though the bulletin does not suggest any specific targets or state that there are any credible threats they are currently investigating, they do suggest that they cannot eliminate the possibility that violent extremists within the U.S. might be planning “retaliatory acts of violence.”

Possible disruptive tactics the DHS and FBI warned law enforcement of include fake bomb threats and “swatting,” when someone reports a false crime in the hopes that law enforcement will react immediately and with extreme force, such as with a SWAT team. Swattings have increased in the last decade, leading to accidental deaths of victims and injuries to the law enforcement officers who respond to such threats. The FBI also warned that officials may have their personal information, such as phone number or address, leaked online, which could make them more susceptible to attacks.

The FBI stated that while they do not share specific threats with the public, they do share information with local law enforcement when relevant.

The gunman who fired at Trump was identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old Pennsylvania resident. Though Trump survived the attack with only a superficial injury to his ear because he turned his head at just the right second, 50-year-old volunteer firefighter and father of two, Corey Comperatore, was shot and killed while protecting his family at the rally. Two other rally attendees, David Dutch, a 57-year-old from New Kensington, and James Copenhaver, a 74-year-old from Moon Township, were shot but are now in stable condition and expected to survive.

The investigation into the shooting continues.
