Fetterman Says He Doesn’t Align With Dem Progressives

(ConservativeInsider.org) – Senator John Fetterman clarified his stance on Israel amidst the conflict with Hamas and the bombing of Gaza, asserting that he no longer identifies as the progressive he once claimed to be.

In an interview with NBC News on Friday, Fetterman stated that he is not a progressive, highlighting his commitment to Democratic values, particularly on issues like choice. Regarding Israel, he affirmed, “I’m going to be on the right side of that.” Additionally, he expressed strong concern about immigration issues, underlining the need to address them effectively.

Critics have condemned Fetterman for aligning with Republicans in endorsing a more substantial immigration crackdown.

His statements disavowing his identification as a progressive contradict numerous prior claims.

In 2016, Fetterman shared in a Twitter post that he had begun a progressive movement in Pennsylvania. This was one of over a dozen instances over the years when he referred to himself as a “progressive.”

In 2018, another Twitter post from the senator emphasized that progressive values were at the heart of his campaign.

Responding to Jeb Bush in 2020, Fetterman tweeted, “My friend, I’m a progressive Democrat at heart.”

The pattern continues with similar statements.

In previous interviews, Fetterman referred to himself as a progressive. During the 2017 lieutenant governorship race, in an exclusive interview with WHYY, he said he would uphold a solid commitment to progressive values as reliable support for the state.

In his NBC News interview, Fetterman expressed a willingness to collaborate with Republicans on stricter immigration policies, especially if it means providing more aid to Israel. He pointed out that after the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack, which claimed the lives of more than 1,000 Israelis, Israel responded by killing over 16,000 Palestinians. Most of those killed in Gaza have been women and children.

Fetterman emphasized that Progressives need to act. He said, “We can’t abandon Israel or Ukraine at this crucial time. We must hold ourselves accountable and keep our promises to them. I really want to make a deal for this important aid.”
