(ConservativeInsider.org) – The federal judge overseeing Hunter Biden’s criminal tax trial in California declared the trial will begin on September 9th.
The case is one of several legal battles that the president’s 54-year-old son is part of, though this one is over allegedly filing false tax reports and failure to pay over a million dollars in taxes from 2016 to 2019. Prosecutors allege that he used the money on luxuries and illicit items, like high-end cars, escorts, and drugs, to name a few.
Hunter Biden is charged with six misdemeanors in addition to three felonies. Though the trial was scheduled to begin earlier in the summer, the judge presiding over the case, U.S. District Court Judge Mark Scarsi, granted a request from Hunter Biden’s team to delay the trial.
Federal prosecutors in the case pushed back against the request from Hunter Biden’s team to delay the trial, as both sides had agreed to the originally scheduled date of June 20th last year. In their complaint, prosecutors said that Hunter Biden should not be treated differently than regular defendants, seemingly implying that this defendant was being given special treatment due to the power his father currently wields. While stating that the motion to delay the trial “should be denied,” prosecutors added that none of the reasons given by Hunter Biden’s legal team justify delaying the trial for over two months. Despite their protestations, the judge granted the continuance.
The president’s only living son was convicted on three felony charges by a federal jury in another case in Delaware earlier this summer on charges of falsifying information while purchasing a revolver, though he has yet to be sentenced in the case. Federal forms to purchase a firearm require the buyer to state if they are a user or addict of illegal drugs, to which Hunter Biden falsely said he was not. Hunter Biden now holds the illustrious distinction of being the first child of a sitting U.S. president to be convicted of a crime.
