(ConservativeInsider.org) – Dianne Feinstein, who was born in 1933 and has served in both local and federal politics in various capacities since 1978, is currently dealing with a lawsuit against her own family members, along with questions of whether she is still capable of serving in the Senate. Feinstein is 90 and the oldest currently serving member of Congress.
Feinstein’s husband, investor Richard Blum, died in early 2022 at the age of 86. Feinstein and Blum were both independently wealthy before they married in 1980, and both had children from previous marriages. Their fortune significantly grew during their 42-year marriage, with experts saying Blum’s estate is worth over $1 billion.
Feinstein and her daughter by her first husband, retired judge Katherine Feinstein, who is serving as her power of attorney, are suing the trustees of Blum’s estate, alleging that they are not contributing to the marital trust set up by Blum before his death and committed “elder financial abuse.” The trustees of Blum’s estate are representing Blum’s three daughters. An attorney for the trustees of Blum’s estate said the case is without merit and caused solely by the younger Feinstein’s “avarice.”
Katherine Feinstein’s lawsuit has called for the court to compel the trustees for Blum’s estate to fund the marital trust that goes to Feinstein, as well as calling for the current trustees for Blum’s estate to be replaced with a temporary one.
When questioned about the lawsuit, a spokesperson for Feinstein’s office said there “won’t be any comment” because it is a “private” matter.
Feinstein announced in early 2023 that she would not seek re-election in 2024, but many are questioning her ability to continue serving in politics. She was briefly hospitalized after a fall this summer and has faced multiple health issues this year that have taken her out of the public eye for several months. Since returning, the 90-year-old has struggled to answer questions coherently, leading to further questions about her capability to serve the remainder of her term, which her team has brushed off.
