Zelensky Reveals Troop Numbers Timed to Washington Visit

(ConservativeInsider.org) – Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky revealed the number of Ukrainian troops on the ground fighting against Russia in a post on the messaging app Telegram.

President Zelensky’s post, which was shared to commemorate Ground Forces Day on December 12th, congratulated and thanked all the soldiers fighting for Ukraine. Zelensky called the 600,000 soldiers “brave” and “heroic” for fighting for their nation, sharing photos of soldiers with weapons and near tanks. He shared a tribute to the soldiers, saying the people of Ukraine are proud and grateful for the sacrifices of the soldiers in their military.

Statista, a data gathering an analysis company, has previously shared their estimate on the number of troops Ukraine has at 500,000.

Zelensky’s message was shared while he was in the United States at the invitation of President Biden. He came to speak to Congress to ask for more aid to be sent to Ukraine. When Zelensky visited last year, members of both parties warmly welcomed the Ukrainian leader, but his welcome this year was decidedly more frosty. Republicans have been pushing back against Biden’s requested aid to Ukraine by saying they won’t vote for more money for Ukraine until the White House does more to defend America’s borders from illegal immigration. The top Republican in the Senate, Sen. Mitch McConnell, who has been an ardent supporter of Ukraine since the war against Russia started, even admitted that an aid package to Ukraine would be “practically impossible” to pass quickly.

Biden criticized Republicans who are withholding Ukrainian aid, suggesting that their refusal to support the nation is giving Russian President Putin “the greatest Christmas gift” possible. Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said that the argument over giving more money to Ukraine is over more than just the immigration debate, because Ukrainian officials have not explained their strategy or how they plan to win the war against Russia, who has a much larger military. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) expressed concerns that Ukraine has made “no significant progress” even though they have received billions in aid from the United States.
