Conservative Latina Candidate Amasses War Chest to Flip Dem-Controlled Border District

(ConservativeInsider.org) – Former Republican Representative Mayra Flores, a conservative Hispanic community leader, has announced a remarkable fundraising achievement in her bid to reclaim the congressional seat for Texas’ 34th District, currently held by a Democrat. Flores, who briefly represented the District from 2022 to 2023, reported an impressive campaign haul, raising over $970,000 from 16,617 unique donors across all 50 states during the 4th quarter of 2023.

In an exclusive statement to Fox News Digital, Flores expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support her campaign has received. She emphasized that voters, both locally in the Rio Grande Valley and nationally, widely acknowledge the severe challenges the southern border is facing. Flores asserted that illegal immigration is spiraling out of control and laid blame on Democrats, specifically pointing fingers at President Joe Biden and Congressman Vicente Gonzalez.

Flores said her team is actively working daily to share their message of improving education and healthcare, lowering costs for families, securing the border, and restoring the greatness of America. She emphasized that this is precisely what she plans to do from the first day she resumes office, putting the people of TX-34 back in charge.

The former Republican Rep. made history with her initial election to Congress in June 2022, securing a victory in a special election to fill a vacant seat in the traditionally Democratic and predominantly Hispanic region along the U.S.-Mexico border. Despite this success, her tenure was short-lived due to Texas’ redistricting following the 2020 Census. In the subsequent 2022 midterm elections, Flores faced an uphill battle against incumbent Democrat Representative Vicente Gonzalez and was defeated.

Undeterred by the setback, Flores announced her intention to challenge Rep. Gonzalez once again in June of the following year. Her campaign maintains a strong focus on issues related to the border crisis and the Hispanic community in South Texas, which she argues has been neglected by the Democratic Party.

The upcoming Republican Primary features a competitive field of candidates, with Flores facing off against notable figures such as Gregory Kunkle, Jr, former congressional candidate Mauro Garza, and Dr. Laura Cisneros, an oncologist and former Democrat. While election analysts tend to lean towards Democrats having an advantage in the race, no significant polling data has been released at this time.
