Illegal in Utah Arrested for Allegedly Raping 11-Year-Old

( – A 26-year-old Guatemalan national who entered the US illegally was arrested in Utah on Monday, February 26th for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl.

According to Utah police, the mother of the victim returned to her apartment shortly after 11 PM on Sunday night, where she saw an adult man leaving the apartment. Though they made eye contact, the man quickly left the area, and no other words were exchanged.

The woman’s 11-year-old daughter was home alone, and when she walked inside her apartment, found her daughter completely naked in the hallway. When the mother asked her daughter what happened, the child reported that she had given a man she had been speaking to on the internet their address and he came to their home and had sex with her.

The suspect was quickly identified through the girl’s Instagram conversations as Jonathan Estuardo Ruano Garcia, and police were quickly able to find him at his home. When questioned by police, the suspect admitted he had explicit conversations with the girl, including sending pictures of his genitalia to the child. He claimed to believe the child was 13 or 14, which is still far below Utah’s age of consent, which is 18. The suspect said he first met up with the child at a soccer game, after which he started talking to her through social media.

When Ruano Garcia was arrested for charges of enticing a minor and the rape of a child, police also discovered a counterfeit social security card in his wallet, which allowed police to add a third felony charge of forgery to his list of charges. The suspect admitted he had paid for the fake social security card when he arrived in the US illegally.

Ruano Garcia is being held at the Utah County Jail without bail. As the local sheriff’s office notifies Immigration and Customs Enforcement whenever an illegal immigrant is arrested, Ruano Garcia is also being held on an ICE hold.
