Pelosi Suggests Putin May Be Behind Anti-Israel Protests

Washington, DC USA 1 7 2021

( – Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House, believes she’s figured out who’s behind the recent wave of anti-Israel and pro-Palestine protests: Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia.

The California Congresswoman told CNN’s “State of the Union” that Putin has supported calls for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. While she believes some of the protesters are sincerely motivated and organically organized, she stated that she thinks an unspecified number of protests are connected to the Russian dictator, adding that the financing for these groups should be investigated. While Pelosi would not go so far as to call protestors “plants,” she believes that the funding for some anti-Israel groups is from Russian sources. Pelosi called on the Federal Bureau of Investigations to investigate Russian ties to pro-Palestinian groups in the U.S.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas that started after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7th of last year has created a schism between Democrats, with some progressives pushing Biden to be more supportive of the Palestinians while others are more interested in continuing America’s historic support of Israel.

Accurate numbers are still hard to come by, but according to Israeli and Gazan authorities, over 1,300 Israelis and 26,000 Palestinians have died since the current conflict began last October.

Several groups have condemned Pelosi’s suggestions that pro-Palestine groups in the U.S. are being funded by Putin, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Nihad Awad, the head of CAIR, called her comments “dehumanizing” towards Palestinians as well as “authoritarian” towards Americans, who have the Constitutionally protected right to protest peacefully. Awad further called her beliefs that Putin is funding American protests “delusional” and “baseless,” adding that political leaders like her should listen to the will of the American people.

When asked, a spokesperson for Pelosi said that she always supports the right for Americans to peacefully protest, but she also is aware of the history of foreign governments attempting to sway American opinions to affect elections.
